Default Hording worthless items

I bought Guild Wars Prophecies late last October and by the time the Wintersday festival came around I didn't have a whole lot of items saved up where you could trade them in for candy canes, snowmen...etc. I scrambled and farmed as much as I could to buy candy canes and after the festival was over I decided for a number of particular items I'd just save up as much as I could for when the next festival or event came around. Well now that Factions (of which I don't have) is out and they had the Dragon's festival and whatever else it seems apparent to me that I may have been saving up crap for something that may not come around again in Prophecies. Does anyone have any idea if Prophecies owners will see another event promotion like last year's wintersday festival where you can trade in worthless crap for cool items?

I've got so much crap like
tons of charr carvings
tons of charr hides
tons of grawl necklaces
tons of orr emblems
tons of bleached carapaces
quite a few of white mantle emblems
quite a few of mursaat tokens
quite a few of forgotten seals
.
.
.
etc.

Now even between my 4 characters I'm having some difficulty managing my inventories and I'm trying to decide what I should merchant, what I should try to sell/auction, what I should salvage...etc. Have I been saving all this crap for a lost cause?

If you're not going to use the collector items for those things, definately merch them. For what to sell, you'll have a hell of a time selling anything that isn't perfect nowadays and most things (even golds) are merch food.

it probably isn't worth saving up a load of stuff for a festival that may or may not come around. Waste of Time in my opinion. If/When Wintersday comes again you'll have plenty of time to save up stuff and get candy canes, not worth all this preparation.

Thanks you two. I agree with you guys and I guess the main reason why I've been saving them is it really wasn't that much effort and didn't create big inventory space issues until recently. Well, by selling a lot of this crap I could stand to make several k.

Lol, i do the same as you... although your list is a lot longer than mine. I still keep my charr carvings, but also signed gargoyle skulls (i am missing those on your list). But i go max 500 (to save space)... hopefully they will be useful someday

But before you sell everything to a merchant, i suggest to trade the char hides to the collector in Ascalon City... she will trade 4 charr hides for a Fur Square (Rare material). That is a much better deal

Like you, I like to Hoard! I usually salvage but It's taken me so long to get through the Crystal Desert that I have no many Forgotten Seals that I might as well sell them to a merchant now...

I hope they keep wintersday the same as last year for the most part. I intend to uber-farm whatever items you need to buy ale this time around. (And a few candy canes I suppose) Nothing beats free booze! =)

Yea, I'd merchant them. Personally, I collect only those that I need, for instance, desert collector items like Dessicated Hydra Claws, Bleached Shells, Minotaur Horns, Topaz Crests, and stuff like that. I have also started collecting Factions collector items, just in case I need them later.

Ok, so I got on the thread for weapon mods in the Price Check section and found that I had 10 items that could be salvaged for the mods and be sold. OMFG!!! Only 2 of the 10 items that I salvaged came up with the mods that I wanted. 4 of the items salvaged into crafting materials, 4 of the items were salvaged into the the wrong mod that was worthless and that left only 2 mods worth anything. The only good ones were Insightful staff head +5 and a Wrapping of Defense +5.

Not cool.

that's the salvage kit for you. Make sure you're using a superior or expert one, it increases the chance you get something good, and not iron ingots or bones.

btw, for anyone who doesn't know about salvage kits...

Yeah I was using an expert kit. I guess you win some and you lose some.

to be completely honest, the original market in guild wars was a good idea, but nowadays, like has been stated above, unless it's gold and perfect or a green item, almost no one will buy it. there used to be a time when you could sell unidentified gold and purple items, but people just stopped wanting to gamble. the market has gone downhill in recent times.

I like to hoard the special even items. I still have items from Halloween and Christmas! Why? I am not sure but i think its time to get rid of them.
